Local Level Validation Activity – Special Day
55 teachers and 750 students of «Sant Ramon School» in Barcelona from 3 to 16 years old had participated in the week «Breakfast in Green» during all the scholar year, also during the «Environmental Day» in this second week of june 2015.
The event is related to the Best Practice: “Barcelona School Agenda 21 Program” and it was a waste prevention and environmental dissemination activity addressed to all the school community (students, teachers, parents, etc.) with two types of different actions during one week.
The aim of the activity was to promote reducing the packaging used to breakfast (use prevention wraps, don't use aluminum foil, etc.), while analyze the type of breakfast habits to move towards healthy eating.
Particularly, the “Green Gang” -one committee formed by high school students- goes to each classroom and make inspections and suggestions in order to check if children, in the breakfast time, separate waste and if they use reusable packaging and eat healthy food. Also during the out of school the “Green Gang” speak with fathers about drinks and food with rechargable packagings, and promotes healthy breakfast (fruits, nuts, etc).
The iniciative is always welcomed and at the end of the course, the winner class gets a special mention and a small reward.
The “Green Gang” is the driving force of any of the environmental school activities. It is also the image of the environmental commission of the school, the communication and dissemination mechanism, and the executive arm (dressed in green, with green hats, etc.).
