JUNIOR Styria is part of JUNIOR Achievement Austria as a member of the European and worldwide organization JUNIR Achievement with the aim and objective to attract students in the age of 16-17years to run a company as a school project, to experience entrepreneurship spirit, to learn and improve skills and competences necessary for self-employment but also for entrepreneurship.
STVG is responsible for the JUNIOR programme in the province Styria and also responsible member in the Austrian National JUNIOR Organisation. Styrian JUNIOR companies had a high performance in the last years and won several times the national competition award and represent regularly Austria in European competitions against 40 and more other participants. It is the interest of STVG to bring “Green ideas” into that programme, also connected to the Styrian policy approach to force the Green labor market. Several JUNIOR companies invent products and services on a environmental topic, like recycling, avoid vast, innovative products out of vaste etc. A Styrian company won the national championship and a special European price, donated by Hewlett Packard, for social responsibility and environmental performance. An essential role in this game plays the teachers at school. They must motivate their students, organize the school framework for the project and find a commitment with other teachers on school. On several school in upper secondary level in Styria network contacts exist for communication, cooperation and coordination with teachers since a couple of years, out of various subjects and disciplines, like economics, MINT – maths, information and communication technologies, natural science and technique, but, teacher changes their workplaces, retire etc, so it is necessary to find new partners in school as multiplier for green environmental entrepreneurial ideas and actions. The event at 30.10.2014 was a 3 hours event with 8 participants out of different upper secondary school, general academic, vocational, technique, commercial and agriculture. The main aim was to present the possibility of JUNIOR Companies as an project approach that offers the opportunity to combine subject contents in various areas with entrepreneurial and environmental topics. Best practices of former JUNIOR companies were presented, from national and European level, and examples of GreeNET were discusses as possible base for entrepreneurial and environmental activities. The event was organized in partnership with the Pedagogical University Styria and in accordance with the Styrian school board. All teachers articulated their interest to cooperate with STVG in the field of entrepreneurship end environmental education in a continuous way after the event.
